Porolissum Research





1. Porolissum Forum Project (John Cabot University, Roma, Zalau History and Art Museum, MIAZ)

The research of the forum for Porolissum Roman City, the hearth of the city, placed south to the Pomet Hill (ongoing since 2004)

2. Mithras Project (UBB-Cluj, HU-Berlin, BMGE-Budapesta, FHE-Erfurt, UK-Köln)

Research of the building for the so-called underground temple of Mithraeum settled to the west of the Principia commandment building (2009-2012, ongoing).

3. Necropolis Porolissensis Project (Babe?-Bolyai University of Cluj)

Investigations in the Roman necropolis of the Porolissum city placed on Ursoie? Hill, in order to complete the previous research and to establish the rite and funeral rites of the Roman communities from Porolissum (2006-2009, finished, ).

4. Late buildings in the Fort Project
(Archaeology Institute and the History of Art -Cluj-IAIA)

The completion of the research started during the 70s for the chronological setting and the evolution of the Roman settlements in the vicinity of Praetoria Gate (ongoing from 2010).

5. Porolissum in Middle Ages Project (MJIAZ, UBB Cluj)

- The research for the St. Margaret Monastery from Mese?, and of the necropolis around it, set up most likely next to Principalis Dextra Gate (ongoing since 2009, with a break)
- The research of the monastery rooms in C?mnin Hill and the Jac Vineyards in order to study monastic phenomenon in the area of Porolissum (planned for 2011).

6. Pre-Roman Porolissum Project (MJIAZ)

- The extension of research on M?gura Moigradului in order to set out the characteristics of the archaeological site in the classic Dacian age (ongoing starting with 1984).
- The extension of research in the prehistoric fort on C?mnin Hill in order to establish the stages and techniques used in the defensive settings (planned for 2011)

7. The Roman Aqueduct Project (MJIAZ)

- valuing the previous research in the area of rows of pillars and prospects in the area of Roman water pools (1996-1997 and planned for the future).

8. Field assessment Project (MJIAZ)

Geophysics explorations for assessing the area in Pomet and Ferice Hills (in the area T?ul Bivolilor) in order to promote the touristic potential of the land and to set up an entertainment zone (planned for 2011).

9. Research project for the entrance area into the Roman city (MJIAZ, IAIA Cluj). The project is included in the Fort Paths Project

- Finishing the research on the border fort, for the gate and the outside wall at the entrance in Porolissum city (planned for 2012)

10. Project for the research of the Vicus Fort on Pomet Hill (MJIAZ)

- Completion of the research on the civil buildings that are close to the fort on Pomet and towards the temples terrace (to be made)

11. The Amphytheatre Project (included in the Fort Paths Project; UBB Cluj)

- Completion of the previous research in order to promote the monument by setting up events (planned for 2012)

Geophysical measurements made in the Southern part of Pomet Hill in order to establish the plane geometry of the Roman city of Porolissum (finished by 1997).
